Manipulation: Portray Part I

Once again a great article on the World Wide Web inspired me to try something new.
Retouch! If you see any kind of model photos be sure that some kind of retouch has been done to them before they reach the magazin, poster ect.

Here are some examples of "In Your Face" retouching - no cover up!

First here are the original photo of Emil.
Picture taken with Canon EF 17-35mm f/2.8 L USM.

This is the result after a "quick" process in Photoshop CS3.

Here is one of Sigurd as well.

EDIT1: Added one of Karen-Line as well. I tried to tone down the retouch a bit to make it look more natural.

EDIT2: Added one more of Karen-Line.

HDR Part I

Yeah! I finally got around to try with HDR (High Dynamic Range) photos. I read a great article by John Nyberg about the process. A HDR photo is two or more (typical 3) photos merged together as one. The photos are taken with a 1 or 2 stop(exposure/shutter speed) interval at the same aperture.

I use AEB (Auto Exposure Bracketing) for this. Set the AEB to 1 or 2 stop. Set you camera to 2 sec. auto shot and hear you camera take 3 fast photos. (You need a tripod for this!) Now you have 3 photos in various light exposure.

I use Photomatix to convert the photos to one HDR photo. You could also use Photoshop CS2 (or higher) but I find the Photomatix way easier to use!

Here are my first two photos.

PPL Part V

Last evening/night we sat out to take some more photos.
Once again I used the light from the sunset to create a warm lighting on the subjects.

Rasmus and Olav joined the standard crew (Sigurd and I) hehe!

Here are some of the photos taken.

PPL Part IV

Okay so lets go...

Yesterday I recived my Canon Speedlight 420EX (flash). So ofcause I had to try it out. I've been reading various articles aboute using flash. Thank "God" for the Internet. Sigurd joined me on this test drive.

Here are some photos where we are working with bouncing the flashlight off white walls to create a softer lighting.

Pictures from the Zoo

More photos are pilling up on my harddisk. I love digital!

Here are some photos from our trip to Odense Zoo today. Not the best day to go on photosafary due to the frequent rainclouds drifting by!

But I still managed to get some photos:-)
All photos are taken with my Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L zoomlens.
And ofcause edited in Photoshop Cs3 as always!

My photo equipment update

I have replaced my beloved Canon EOS 400D with it's bigbrother the Canon EOS 40D. I'm happy to say that my uncle bought the 400D of me so it's still in the family. He upgraded his old analog Canon EOS 300 so he can still use his old lens'.
The Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L USM has landed and as you can see it has already produced a lot of photos. I'm looking into upgrading to the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 non-IS version to be able to take better concert photos. For concert and landscape photos I have just recived my new Canon EF 17-35mm f/2.8 L USM. A very fast and sharp wide zoomlens with a high aperture for lowlight sceens.

Here is an update on my equipment list.

PPL Part II

Yeah I've just recived my new Canon EF 17-35mm f/2.8 L lens. This is from Canons "L-series", the professional line, wich really shows in the building quality of the lens. It's heavy, quick and sharp just like my Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L zoomlens.

Here are a few shots taken on a grey day like this. Why must all my vacationdays be grey?
